It started with a love of bread
After my move back to Chicago from spending 1.5 years abroad French pastry school in Paris, I refused to eat bread. I was so used to having access to freshly baked, delicious, high quality bread every day. Why on earth would I waste my calories eating grocery store bread? It was tasteless, boring and really only a vehicle to put other things in my mouth (like the contents of a chicken pesto sandwich). I could just eat the chicken that I would be putting in my sandwich and then save room for dessert. OR I could just make my own bread. And you know what? Why should I just have good bread? EVERYONE should have good bread.
So I started baking and imagining the best bakery model. Generally, you have to run to the bakery early in the morning and fight other people as the bread gets pulled out of the oven. Not super ideal or convenient...
What if we just bake bread fresh the same day and deliver it on a regular basis? A bread subscription that would be automatic...That would make it convenient. That's how Bread Box Chicago was born. Out of necessity for delicious bread.
Bread Box Chicago was created to spread the love of delicious bread.
